Remember when the left accused the Bush administration of secretly planning a draft for military service? Well, that proved to be untrue, but not for Charley Rangel:
“An influential Democratic lawmaker on Sunday called for reinstatement of the draft as a way to boost U.S. troop levels and draw a broader section of the population into the military or public service.
U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, the incoming chairman of the House of Representatives’ tax-writing committee, said he would introduce legislation to reinstate the draft as soon as the new, Democratic-controlled Congress convenes in January.
Asked on CBS’ “Face the Nation” if he was still serious about the proposal for a universal draft he raised a couple of years ago, he said, “You bet your life. Underscore serious.”
Rangel has long been a supporter of a military draft – something (choke gasp) I agree with. I think a two-year military conscription is a good thing for the young men of this country. Teach them responsibility.
But this is just another subject that the uber moonbat left is going to go bonkers over. You see for all the antiwar retoric of the Democrats, nobody with the intellligence of a knat (most of our punditry) thinks that there will be anyway to deal with North Korea or Iran except militarily, so the only way to fuel that effort is to have bodies to fight.
Watch in the coming weeks and months as the uber left discovers with horror that their “ideas” are not even remotely going to be imitated, the backlash is going to be fun to watch.
UPDATE: Sample reacts from the left:
here:
“Question: Do some newly ascendant Democrats have a political death wish? Do some seem to want to take the blank slate of imagery the election provided them and scribble a silly or alarming political caricature on it so it will be sized by opponents, then held up as the face of their party as a whole?”
Of coure the the always fuzzy logic defense of Rangel here.
“Oh man, please, please, please tell me this isn’t what we just elected…
Watch the spin begin from the left.
