First let me say that I’m not going to join the chorus of conservative pundits and congratulate the Democrats on their “masterful” win. The fact is that they perpetrated a fraud on the electorate by hooking up conservative democrats in order to get the uber left into power. John Fund was correct in calling it “the new election fraud”. Washington has had enough dishonesty, and this was most likely the greatest fraud in history, and a testimony to the character of the Democrats who as we said over and over again would do anything to regain power. This in comparison to George Bush who withstood his beliefs and principles (like it or not), and didn’t budge even though it contributed to the loss of power. Therein lies the difference.
Believe me it won’t be long before America discovers in horror what they wrought.
However in any case, this was in no way a “wave” as the MSM has tried to make it out. More like a blip on the radar. Charles Krauthammer put’s it all in perspective:
” This is not realignment. As has been the case for decades, American politics continues to be fought between the 40-yard lines. The Europeans fight goal line to goal line, from socialist left to ultra-nationalist right. On the American political spectrum, these extremes are negligible. American elections are fought on much narrower ideological grounds. In this election the Democrats carried the ball from their own 45-yard line to the Republican 45-yard line.
The fact that the Democrats crossed midfield does not make this election a great anti-conservative swing. Republican losses included a massacre of moderate Republicans in the Northeast and Midwest. And Democratic gains included the addition of many conservative Democrats, brilliantly recruited by Rep. Rahm Emanuel with classic Clintonian triangulation. Hence Heath Shuler of North Carolina, antiabortion, pro-gun, anti-tax — and now a Democratic House member.”
I told you previously and I’ll tell you again, the next two years will see the Democrats screw things up so badly it will have many people scratching their heads saying, “What in the hell we were thinking?” This was a blip because Democrats didn’t win on their agenda (whatever the hell it is), but because of dissatisfied with the war – period. This was a one issue election, and yet conservative principles won out across the country.
Charles correctly notes that:
“Moreover, ballot initiatives make the claim of a major anti-conservative swing quite problematic. In Michigan, liberal Democrats swept the gubernatorial and senatorial races, yet a ballot initiative to abolish affirmative action passed 58 to 42 percent. Seven of eight proposed state constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage were approved. And nine states passed referendums asserting individual property rights against the government’s power of eminent domain.”
I’ll go out on a limb and tell you know that the Republicans will rebound and take back Congress in 2008 as well as keep the Presidency. The next two years of fumbling and infighting between uber left progressives and the middle Democrats will rip the party to shreds. They might have got to our 45 yard line, but when they fumble, we are going to pick it up and run for a touchdown that will end the game.
