First, for Michael Richards, get some anger management. Secondly, we again witness the hypocrisy of our media who are “outraged” and “offended” because a white man used the “N” word, which is only to be used by black people and comedians.
For instance, in one show, black commedian Dave Chappell used the “N” word 47 times. I know, it’s “satire”. But in the same show he used the words “Cracker” and “Honkey” more than 20 times. Seems we should have the “H” word, for “Hypocrisy”. Fact is that most times it is used it is used by blacks.
That somehow is “acceptable”, yet I would question that. How is it right to use a word that supposedly offends, when it’s obvious that it only offends when it is used by white people? Frankly, even though I have grown up in the south I have rarely heard the word used by whites, but frequently hear it used by blacks and hispanics even when it’s not “satire”.
I’m one white guy who doesn’t need to apologize for being white. My family didn’t participate in the slave trade, quite frankly many white families did not. Fact is that if people would toss “Roots” as their frame of reference, they would know that historically they were sold out by the Muslims, who are still in the business.
Actually, according to witnesses at the Richards show, the group of black audience members were hurling “cracker” and “honky” insults before Michael returned the salvo. Before you say, “So what”, I’ll tell you that many of us in my home find those insults equally offensive. Sure he should have kept his cool, but the more I watched the video the more it seemed that he was making a point than just throwing out “N” word.
Fact is while everyone is piling on, the fact is that there are much deeper issues here than just an out of control pissed off comedian. We have an issue of hypocrisy.
