From the Palm Beach Post back on September 29th:
“WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Mark Foley’s campaign Thursday called the disclosure of a series of e-mails between the congressman and a 16-year-old former congressional page a “political attack and … the worst kind of character assassination.”
But the campaign of Foley’s challenger, Democrat Tim Mahoney, denied he was behind the release of the e-mails and said the issue should be “a matter for the appropriate authorities to investigate.”
The e-mails – which Foley spokesman Jason Kello said Foley wrote a year ago – publicly surfaced Sunday on an Internet blog site devoted to exposing sexual predators.
In the five e-mails sent from his personal account, Foley asks the page – whose identity is being withheld – when his birthday is, how old he will be, what he likes to do, and what he wants for his birthday. Foley also asks the teenager to send him a photograph.
In one e-mail, Foley wrote that he had just e-mailed another youth whom he describes – using ellipses between phrases – as “such a nice guy … acts much older than his age … and hes (sic) in really great shape.”
According to sources familiar with the e-mails, the page – who lives in Monroe, La. – forwarded copies of Foley’s e-mails to Danielle Savoy, a former scheduler for U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, a Republican from Monroe. Savoy could not be reached for comment and Alexander’s office did not return phone calls.”
Note the “former” and the fact that no one has heard of her since.
The one thing that we do know is that the emails “somehow” got into the hands of Democratic operatives at CREW (yeah, it’s a Democratic operative organization). Following AJ Strata’s timeline in August of 2005 we see that the “LA Page” gave the emails to Savoy. The only logical conclusion at this point is that someone “in the chain” at Alexander’s office sent the documents to CREW.
Before you remind me that Alexander’s office is REPUBLICAN, let me tell that that doesn’t mean squat. I’ve been working with the GOP in Florida for years and I can’t tell you how many democratic operatives come into to join us, flash credentials, act like one of us, just to see what we’re doing and then report back to the DNC. Interesting as well is that Savoy soon after left Alexander’s office, however we don’t know the exact date, or the reason. Perhaps we find out.
Now for a minute let’s go back to our usual suspects, AJ notes that “Gay Outer” John Aravosis is getting agitated, and changing stories, throwing around threats and blaming others, which is what I told everyone would happen. It always happens when someone is involved, or was involved in something they shouldn’t have been involved in. It’s enviable. During my LE days it’s the best part of interrogation of a suspect, just let them tell on themselves, they do it every time. It’s really no rocket science how the story starts to fall apart rapidly when you’re being asked, you know, questions.
He had the emails in July, no it was June, no wait it was before June, but after August of 2005, yada, yada…..
At this point, considering the legalities, he and Mike Rogers might want to shut up.
Somehow, though, like I explain in my wolf analogy, I doubt it.
UPDATE I: Per a tip, Danielle Savoy now works as a clerk of the court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, under Judge D. Engelhardt, an appointee of President Bush. Again, since we know she originally recieved the documents. I now defer to AJ Strata who’s working the timeline:
“Again looking at the timeline we also know these files are leaked to the St Petersburg Times sometime prior to November 2005, when they admit getting the emails. So the act of transferring the files from the protection of Alexander‚Äôs staff to the man who was shopping them to the media (and yes we know it was a man and not Ms Savoy) happened between Oct 17, 2005 and the end of November. The leak occured between 10/17/05 and 11/30/05.”
At this point we know that someone in the Office of Rodney Alexander obtained the emails and got them out into the “que” so to speak. Again, this is how things get out. Most times when dirt is dug up on a candidate it’s from a “mole” on the inside from the outside. More than likely this mole was just in the right place at the right time and got “lucky”. Staff in any politician’s office come and go frequently. Additionally there are pages and interns there as well. It may well be impossible at this point to tell “who” leaked them out, but we do know who recieved them and who held on to them until the time was right.
