Today even more water pouring into the already sinking SSS Harry Reid. Today this editorial nails the issue:

“THE BEST CASE for Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) is that he was sloppy about financial disclosure rules in accounting for a real estate deal on which he made a $700,000 profit. The more unattractive case is that the senator’s inaccurate description of the investment was an effort to disguise his partnership with a Las Vegas lawyer who’s never been charged with wrongdoing but whose name has surfaced in federal investigations involving organized crime, casinos and political bribery since the 1980s. As of now, the evidence points toward sloppiness; Mr. Reid’s friendship with Jay Brown isn’t exactly a secret in the state. But either way, an Associated Press report about Mr. Reid’s dealings doesn’t cast the senator in an attractive light. Neither does his response to the AP story, which indicates a casual disregard for the importance of accurate reporting of lawmakers’ financial affairs.”

What began as a ethical dilemma for Reid may turn legal if that “organized crime” connection, or other criminal connections begins to seed. Thomas Lifson writes:

“So far, the Senate Minority Leader has mainly faced ethics questions about disclosure. But the underlying transaction, based as it is on decisions by government enriching Reid, is far more questionable.”

Questions which the DOJ may begin to take a look at.

UPDATE: Hugh Hewitt, with a a take down for the MSM. Also Webloggin with more as well.

UPDATE II: Contacted the office of George J. Chanos, Nevada Attorney General, who is a Republican and tried to get a statement of their position on Senator Reid in light of the AP reporting and elsewhere. Had to leave a message, waiting on a callback. Might be a good idea for bloggers to ramp it up a little and ask what’s going on?

Here is the contact:

I’m going to keep it on this side. At this point based on what we know a preliminary probe is appropriate. Capt Ed details family “traditions” as well as links to further calls for investigations and Reid to resign.

The interesting thing to watch is going see if other democrats begin to turn on Reid. They feel so confident that they are going to sweep Republicans in the mids, this is something they don’t want to kill their chances.

Therefore I’ll predict that within a week we see calls for him to resign from within the Party.

UPDATE III: AJ Strata hot on the trail, asks How Does Reid Get Paid Twice On Land Deal?” Easy AJ, when you are a crook!
