“WASHINGTON (CNN) — Jeff Trandahl, the former House clerk who oversaw the House Page Program, is expected to break his silence Tuesday on the Foley page scandal, according to a colleague familiar with the media’s interest in the case.
As clerk, Trandahl oversaw the page program at the same time then-Rep. Mark Foley, R-Florida, was having sexually explicit conversations with the teenage messengers. Trandahl, who resigned as clerk in 2005 to become executive director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, has not commented yet on the scandal.”
Ok, back to a my post here:
“‚ÄúShimkus said he first learned of the e-mails in the fall of 2005. Just before an upcoming vote on the House floor, House Clerk Jeff Trandahl showed him an excerpt of e-mail exchanges the former page‚Äôs parents forwarded to him. The parents, Trandahl said, had expressed concern about the messages but were adamant that they be kept confidential.
What stood out was that Foley asked the page for a photograph of himself.
Shimkus said that he and three others walked down to Foley’s office and confronted him with the messages. “I remember him looking at it, giving it back to us and responding, ‘If I can be accused of being overly friendly then I’m guilty for being overly friendly. When I was a young kid someone was a mentor to me and encouraged me to public service, and that’s all I’m trying to do.’ My response was ‘That’s fine. Stay away from this page and stay away from the pages, plural.’”
After that, Shimkus says he had no indication that the e-mails between Foley and the page were continuing or that there were similar messages between Foley and other pages. Shimkus says that Foley was conspicuously absent from an end-of-the-academic year meeting with all the pages.”
Here we see a glimpse of what Trandahl is going to say. Since he is out of service he wouldn’t be receiving a subpoena from the EC, but we already know that according to the report he talked to the parents, they didn’t want to pursue it, and it their wishes were honored. At this point Smimkus has been consistant that when Foley was confronted with the emails he played innocent, and for what they knew at the time there was no reason to think different. Foley was told to keep away from the pages and other pages, in other words, “You might be trying to be nice, but it could be percieved as crossing the line”. Note that it was at this at the time that the “leak” of the emails occurred (fall-late fall of 2005).
However the interesting thing is that Trandahl stepped down right after this and it may be that if anyone did know about Foley’s activities - or had suspicions - he might have been Trandahl, who is openly gay, and Fordham who resigned last week and is also gay. I’m leaning with AJ that Trandahl and Fordham are the keys to the mystery.
Again as neither one are actively in service anymore the EC has no jurisdiction over them, but they would be still subject to the FBI, and it could get real interesting if Fordham begins to talk of other names, such as those with initials JA and MR.
Hopefully we see tomorrow.

1Protecting The Kids?…
So we have Nancy Pelosi sputtering idiotic comments like so:
“We want to know why the Republicans chose to protect Mark Foley’s political career rather than protect the children who were in our charge.”
But no word from her about her…
