Breaking news, more to come!

“President Bush and Sen. John McCain have reached an agreement on legislation covering tribunals for enemy combatant suspects, NBC News reported Thursday.

Details on the deal were not immediately available.

The compromise comes amid a stalemate that has divided the House and Senate on the treatment of detainees. The two sides remained at odds this week over how to adhere to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and ‚Äî simultaneously ‚Äî give the CIA wide leeway to conduct interrogations.”

Per Byron York, one word via a source “DEAL”.

UPDATE: Via The Corner, Senator Mitch McConnell:

‚ÄúThe President was very clear that any legislation on terrorist detainees must ensure that our intelligence-gathering interrogation program can continue. As the President said, this valuable program has saved innocent American lives and is preventing future terrorist attacks. The legislation we will soon consider on the Senate floor meets the President‚Äôs criteria. This is a big win in the continuing war on terror.”

Sounds like a win for our National Security and a loss for those who want to thwart it.

UDPATE: The lefty blogs are calling it a “sellout”. Very good sign that we win.
