Secretary Rumsfeld hit a nerve dead center in the middle of the left when he compare the left’s present “Cut and Run” position with the “Why go in the first place” of eville Chamberlain. Ever since the left has cried the blues and called “foul” and “no fair” and whined with the the same old tired “How dare you question our patriotism!”

An LA Times editorial writes:

“Take the suggestion that critics of Bush’s Iraq policy are the moral equivalent of those who refused to stop Hitler. There’s a reason why high school debaters are warned away from Nazi analogies: They’re almost always disproportionate. Even Bush, who recently raised eyebrows by identifying “Islamic fascism” as America’s enemy, stopped short of referring to critics of his policies as latter-day Neville Chamberlains.

Even more offensive is Rumsfeld’s “blame America first” canard. Who exactly has been pushing what he called “the destructive view that America ‚Äî not the enemy ‚Äî is the real source of the world’s troubles”? Certainly no one in mainstream American political discourse, not even those members of Congress who want to set a date for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. Their argument, right or wrong, is that Iraq is descending into civil war and that the U.S. presence there is unavailing and a drain on resources better expended elsewhere, including on counter-terrorism at home.”

Nice try but Rummy was right. The last part of that second paragraph is a smoke screen. The fact is that for the last three years beginning with John Kerry and on through Rep. John Murtha, the message has been to cut and run, bring the troops home, hide out and stop pissing off the terrorist and they’ll leave us alone. That’s exactly how Neville Chamberlain viewed Nazi Germany at the time and exactly the way the antiwar left views terrorism now.

The fact is that everytime the left get’s called on it’s true position they balk and cry the blues, but it doesn’t change the fact that they are very much the Party of Appeasement.

Rumsfeld didn’t lable them, they earned it.
