I’m told that Lisa Meyers has a reputation among the IC community, “Gossip Hound”. She is legendary for one page drive-bys designed to nothing more than begin an argument and draw viewers to the Peacock.
In a NBC ‘exclusive’ she cites “ONE” source in trying to draw a picture of “drama” between the Bush Administration and the Brits as to when to pull the trigger on the Airplane Plot.
” LONDON - NBC News has learned that U.S. and British authorities had a significant disagreement over when to move in on the suspects in the alleged plot to bring down trans-Atlantic airliners bound for the United States.
A senior British official knowledgeable about the case said British police were planning to continue to run surveillance for at least another week to try to obtain more evidence, while American officials pressured them to arrest the suspects sooner. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.
In contrast to previous reports, the official suggested an attack was not imminent, saying the suspects had not yet purchased any airline tickets. In fact, some did not even have passports”
Wow! Drama! So Lisa, when is a good time to “pull the trigger”? Perhaps we should wait until they were on the plane listening to the “Welcome aboard video”?
There is NO story here at all. There are always these types of “disagreements” between world ICs, just as there is in any investigation. Some want to move in now, others later, and it’s basically a crap shoot at times. Moving too soon could jepardize the case, too late can mean disaster. You can be questioned if you do, and damned to hell if you don’t.
Yet you always have to be suspicious of reports like this coming five days after the fact, citing one lone anonymous source and when they do provide absolutely nothing to the story. The fact is whether the trigger was pulled early or late, they didn’t get to do their dirty deed and THAT’S the story. The fact is that this was a good bust and that is the story. The fact is that this is a victory on the Global War on Terror and that is the REAL story that people like Meyers and the rest of the drive by media can’t let stand if they can help it.
Funny thing is that the nutroots who claim that Bush used the thwarted attack for political purposes are even now using this story using the story for the same reason. Like I said, they are praying for smoldering ashes before 2008 - ANYTHING for a vote.
Dangerous folks these nutroots. Don’t leave them alone with the kids.
I think we’re done here!

1You can say that again! WOW! And talk about “timing”:
[Now, according to Bill Keller] The NY Times withheld the story (NSA surveillance) so they wouldn’t influence the election? With their drummed up al Qaqaa story and all the Abu Ghraib reporting, it sure looks like they weren’t holding back on other fronts. And then they drop the bomb with the NSA story on the eve of the Patriot Act hearings!
…..
“My dog ate my homework” carries more weight than Mr. Keller’s lame fictionalizations.

Now, I guess they don’t even care enough anymore to make their arguements even halfway believable. Apparently shame has no meaning for these folks anymore either. Pitiful!
