More details about that UN Post that was hit by an Israeli bomb.
“The words of a Canadian United Nations observer written just days before he was killed in an Israeli bombing of a UN post in Lebanon are evidence Hezbollah was using the post as a “shield” to fire rockets into Israel, says a former UN commander in Bosnia.
Those words, written in an e-mail dated just nine days ago, offer a possible explanation as to why the post — which according to UN officials was clearly marked and known to Israeli forces — was hit by Israel on Tuesday night, said retired Maj.-Gen. Lewis MacKenzie yesterday.
The strike hit the UN observation post in the southern Lebanese village of El Khiam, killing Canadian Maj. Paeta Hess-von Kruedener and three others serving as unarmed UN military observers in the area.
Just last week, Maj. Hess-von Kruedener wrote an e-mail about his experiences after nine months in the area, words Maj.-Gen. MacKenzie said are an obvious allusion to Hezbollah tactics.
“What I can tell you is this,” he wrote in an e-mail to CTV dated July 18. “We have on a daily basis had numerous occasions where our position has come under direct or indirect fire from both (Israeli) artillery and aerial bombing.
“The closest artillery has landed within 2 meters (sic) of our position and the closest 1000 lb aerial bomb has landed 100 meters (sic) from our patrol base. This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity.”
Those words, particularly the last sentence, are not-so-veiled language indicating Israeli strikes were aimed at Hezbollah targets near the post, said Maj.-Gen. MacKenzie.
“What that means is, in plain English, ‘We’ve got Hezbollah fighters running around in our positions, taking our positions here and then using us for shields and then engaging the (Israeli Defence Forces),” he said.
That would mean Hezbollah was purposely setting up near the UN post, he added. It’s a tactic Maj.-Gen. MacKenzie, who was the first UN commander in Sarajevo during the Bosnia civil war, said he’s seen in past international missions: Aside from UN posts, fighters would set up near hospitals, mosques and orphanages.”
John at Stop the ACLU notes that Kofi may have some ’splaining’ to do and specifically why he was so quick to condemn Israel BEFORE the facts were known. In other words, “What is his real motivation? Is he just a front man for terrorist?
Kofi is a dangerous man to be at the helm of the UN.
Update:  Seems that Kofi was running advanced damage control.

1Hey Mac,
I HATE moving—too many boxes.
Getting adjusted to new space
Anyway, this blurb caught my eye. I just recall, many times over the years, saying to myself that Kofi’s statements were antagonistic towards US or Israeli positions or actions (whatever they might be).
A good example, would be..the Islamist militia taking Somali capitol. The Islamist suggested that their intentions were “peaceful”; meaning as long as no one struggles against us..this will be over quick.
What does Kofi do at this outbreak of violence and sudden change in somolia? He warns anyone who might interfere in it.
And yet, we do not see this same response from Kofi towards Isreal in this action..which even has the added element of being provoked. If it’s Kofi’s position that civillian casutlies should be the determining factor of such things….he can join the ranks of Islamists and terroists who have LONG figured that out!!
That we “care” about such things. That’s WHY they are effective tools for them‚Äîbecause it works. . You know politics..is politics. But, Kofi needs to go.
On an unrelated note: Mac, I sent you a re-touched image of your platoon from basic. I hope you got it..I never heard back. It’s at least a lot better than the scan you have, and I was able to repair some of the old photo damage. I hope you got it anyway.

2DC, that’s a big 10-4 on Kofi, but don’t look for the UN to replace him anytime soon as he’s just the stooge they need to kept things hid.
On the photo, could you re-send it? I really appreciate that you did that. But you my email system is set on really tight controls (I get LOTS of Spam) and it might have got deleted.
In any case, if you can I have the filters set for your email so I should be able to get it.

4We know from the Canadian UN observer (what the hell were they “observing” for 28 years that was so fascinating they didn’t observe 13,000 missles being delivered?), that Hezbollah thugs were firing from about ten feet from the UN post, but I had heard before that, before Israel hit that post, that Hezbollah flags were unfurled alongside the UN flags. Anyone else hear that?
That would seem to me to maybe invite a little smack-down. But that’s just me.
